In The Old Testament, The Torah (Laws Of God) Forbid The Consumption Of Blood :

(Leviticus 17:10 KJV)
"And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel,
or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood;
I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood,
and will cut him off from among his people."

(Leviticus 17:11 KJV)
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood:
and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls:
for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul."

(Leviticus 17:12 KJV)
"Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood,
neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood."

(Leviticus 17:13 KJV)
"And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel,
or of the strangers that sojourn among you,
which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten;
he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust."

(Leviticus 17:14 KJV)
"For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof:
therefore I said unto the children of Israel,
Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh:
for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off."

(Deuteronomy 12:23 KJV)
"Only be sure that thou eat not the blood:
for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh."

In The New Testament, The Apostles Forbid The Consumption Of Blood,
Upholding The Previous Law Of God :

(Acts 15:19 KJV)
"Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them,
which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:"

(Acts 15:20 KJV)
"But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols,
and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."

(Acts 15:28 KJV)
"For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us,
to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;"

(Acts 15:29 KJV)
"That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood,
and from things strangled, and from fornication:
from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well."

(Acts 21:25 KJV)
"As touching the Gentiles which believe,
we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing,
save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood,
and from strangled, and from fornication."

The Fact That The Bible Clearly Forbids The Consumption Of Blood
Is One Reason Why We Know That The Christian Communion Is Symbolic.

However, Due To An Incomplete Reading Of John 6:53-63,
The Roman Vatican Has Taught That Communion
Could Somehow Magically Be The Literal Consumption Of Jesus' Flesh & Blood.

This Teaching Has Been Named "Transubstantiation".

(John 6:53 KJV)
"Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."

(John 6:54 KJV)
"Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;
and I will raise him up at the last day."

(John 6:55 KJV)
"For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed."

(John 6:56 KJV)
"He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him."

(John 6:57 KJV)
"As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father:
so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me."

(John 6:58 KJV)
"This is that bread which came down from heaven:
not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever."

(John 6:59 KJV)
"These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum."

(John 6:60 KJV)
"Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this,
said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?"

(John 6:61 KJV)
"When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it,
he said unto them, Doth this offend you?"

(John 6:62 KJV)
"What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?"

(John 6:63 KJV)
"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:
the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

In John 6:63, Jesus Said He Was Speaking Of Spiritual Realities,
Similar To The Other Parables He Had Already Spoken,
Not Of Literal Eating Of Physical Flesh Or Drinking Of Literal Blood.

(Matthew 13:34 KJV)
"All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in
parables;
and without a
parable spake he not unto them:"

(Matthew 13:35 KJV)
"That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet,
saying, I will open my mouth in
parables;
I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

According To The Bible, It Was The Spilling ( "Shedding" ) Of Jesus' Blood
That Saves Us From The Penalty For Our Sins, Not The Drinking Of It :

(Matthew 26:26 KJV)
"And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it,
and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body."

(Matthew 26:27 KJV)
"And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;"

(Matthew 26:28 KJV)
"For this is my blood of the new testament,
which is shed
[ spilled ] for many for the remission [ forgiveness ] of sins."

(Mark 14:24 KJV)
"And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament,
which is shed
[ spilled ] for many."

(Hebrews 9:22 KJV)
"And almost all things are by the law purged with blood;
and without shedding
[ spilling ] of blood is no remission [ forgiveness ]."

The Apostle Paul Gave Other Reasons Why
Communion Must Be Symbolic And Not Literal.

If Communion Could Somehow Be The Literal Consumption Of Jesus' Flesh & Blood,
Then Jesus Would Be Suffering During Every Communion Service Ever Held :

(Hebrews 9:25 KJV)
"Nor yet that he should offer himself often,
as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;"

(Hebrews 9:26 KJV)
"
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world:
but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself."

(Hebrews 9:27 KJV)
"And as it is appointed unto men
once to die, but after this the judgment:"

(Hebrews 9:28 KJV)
"So Christ was
once offered to bear the sins of many;
and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."

(Hebrews 10:10 KJV)
"By the which will we are sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all."

(Hebrews 10:11 KJV)
"And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins:"

(Hebrews 10:12 KJV)
"But this man, after he had offered
one sacrifice for sins for ever,
sat down on the right hand of God;"

(Hebrews 10:13 KJV)
"From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool."

(Hebrews 10:14 KJV)
"For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified."
